SGL Group presented its carbon fiber Sigrafil C T50-4.0/240-T140 optimized for thermoplastic applications for the first time back at the JEC 2014. The company is now expanding its product range by a new product: organic sheets made from carbon and glass fibers.

Organic sheets with thermoplastic matrix

Organic sheets are continuous fiber-reinforced laminates with a thermoplastic matrix. They combine the positive fiber properties of composite materials such as high rigidity and low weight with the easy processing of thermoplastics. Components made from organic sheets can be shaped in any final product geometry as well as repaired and recycled very effectively. Two standardized sizes are available. In addition, the company offers individual laminate structures in terms of orientation, textile architectures and wall thickness.

Holistic approach

A team has been put together within SGL Group for customer-specific material and process development along with production and marketing of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics. In addition to semi-finished goods, the new group offers various individual services, including engineering and prototyping.

Expertise from Business Unit and Research combined

At an early stage, SGL Group identified the field of thermoplastic composite materials as a dynamic area for growth and is now profiting from the established expertise: more than two years ago, a thermoplastic program was launched in which all of the research and development activities from carbon fiber up to application in structural components are combined.
