- Demand for high modulus fibres is growing
- Glass fibres are used in about 90% of all fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP)
The market for glass fibre manufacturers has been changing in the past years. New stakeholders, mainly from Asia, have joined the market. The demand for high modulus fibres is growing, especially in Asia. In addition, there have been a large number of new developments in the glass fibre industry, for example in the sector of glass composition and sizing.
The high demand for glass fibres and the fast changing market situation induced the Institut für Textiltechnik of the RWTH Aachen University (ITA) in cooperation with the Institute of Mineral Engineering of RWTH Aachen University (GHI) to conduct the 3rd International Glass Fiber Symposium from 17th – 19th October 2016 in Aachen, Germany.
Glass fibres are used in about 90% of all fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP)
Glass fibres are the most utilised high modulus fibres to strengthen fibre composite structures. They are used in about 90% of all fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP). The global production capacity for these high modulus fibres exceeds 4 million tons. 65% of the applications are in the transport industry, the sector of building & construction and the wind energy industry.
Aim of the conference
The aim of the conference is to build a bridge from the manufacturing of the glass fibres to the composite material users covering every intermediate step. For this reason, the International Glass Fiber Symposium is a unique conference worldwide. There will be producers as well as operators to ex-change information on the latest developments in the field. Thereby, problems shall be discussed from the producers as well as the operators point-of-view in order to found new cooperation partners, to generate impulses for innovations and to set the basis for a successful network along the value added chain.
