- Material for low-pressure filament winding market
- Multi-end roving for chop and spray-up in pipes and tanks
- Single-end rovings for high-pressure epoxy filament winding market
Owens Corning, a leading producer of glass fiber reinforcements and engineered materials for composite materials, will launch its new PipeStrand range of products for high- and low-pressure filament winding applications at the upcoming JEC World 2016 composites show.
Filament winding applications compose the largest glass reinforcement market in the world with 655,000 tons of roving sold per year. Applications include power and energy (refineries, power plants, off-shore platforms, liquid propane gas, etc.), petrochemicals, marine and water distribution (desalination, treatment, sewage, etc.).
Material for low-pressure filament winding market
Developed for the low-pressure filament winding market, PipeStrand S1000 single-end roving is compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy and polyurethane resins. The very good processing, long-term mechanical and hydrostatic properties of the S1000 roving provide a major step-change over existing products and meet longer service life requirements for pipes, tanks and vessels (20-50 years)2. This single product enables lower roving inventory and faster creel changes.
Multi-end roving for chop and spray-up in pipes and tanks
PipeStrand M6000 multi-end roving provides optimal performance for chop and spray-up in pipes and tanks. It can be used for large- and small-diameter applications, and on horizontal and vertical surfaces where fast wet-out speed is preferred. It also demonstrates very good compatibility with polyester and vinyl ester.
Single-end rovings for high-pressure epoxy filament winding market
PipeStrand S2300 and S2500 single-end rovings are designed for the high-pressure and high-performance epoxy filament winding market. These products are equipped to meet pipe manufacturers’ requirements for high mechanical properties, durability, corrosion resistance, and low weight.
PipeStrand S2300 and S2500 rovings allow for up to a 61-percent improvement over reference products in axial tensile strength and burst stress. They provide outstanding hydro-thermal stability under pressurized conditions for long pipe service life (over 20 years). In addition, both rovings offer a superior processing range, providing low fuzz under various tension levels, fast wetting, and smooth pipe surface. These properties can lead to reduced down time and lower resin consumption. They are designed for both amine and anhydride-cured epoxies. S2300 delivers very good mechanical properties in aromatic amine-cured epoxies, while S2500 is engineered for peak performance in anhydride cured epoxies.
