ITASA, a leading producer of silicone liners, has begun construction of a silicone paper and film production plant in Querétaro, Mexico. The new plant will serve the entire continent and will consolidate the company’s position as a global manufacturer of release liners.

150 million m2 production capacity

The construction of this new facility, which will require an investment of EUR 20 million, is the first time ITASA has built a completely new plant outside its headquarters in Spain. The estimated production capacity of the plant will be more than 150 million m(1,615 million ft2). With the opening of the plant, ITASA will become the first global manufacturer with production capacity in Latin America.

Strategic location to serve the United States and Latin America

ITASA has chosen to set up in Querétaro because of its central location to serve customers in the United States and Latin America. The launch in the Americas is part of the company’s firm commitment to internationalization, which already led to the acquisition of a production plant in Malaysia two years ago.

Production area of 6,000 m2

The new plant, whose construction will be completed this November, will have a production area of 6,000 m2 (64,583 ft2) with the possibility to expand. It will initially provide employment for 30 people which will increase to 50 people in late 2019, when production is expected to be at full capacity.

ITASA has been manufacturing silicone paper since 1974 for different applications in sectors such as self-adhesive tape, labels, composites, medicine, graphic arts and hygiene. Currently, the company has an installed production capacity of 750 million m2 (8073 million ft2) per year. It exports more than 80% of its production to more than 60 countries. The company has experienced 40% growth since 2013 and its turnover exceeded EUR 80 million in 2017.
