TPE adds lasting soft touch to first-ever ‘social music player’

Logitech’s Ultimate Ears introduced its UE BOOM 360° sound wireless speaker as the world’s first “social music player” with life-resistant features aided by a thermoplastic elastomer from Multibase, a Dow Corning Company.

The TPSiV 4000-80A thermoplastic elastomer is used to overmould the spine with volume controls, end caps and branding tag on the UE BOOM wireless speaker. Combining the benefits of thermoplastic polyurethanes and silicone rubber, the TPSiV material can be easily processed to deliver good abrasion and stain resistance, along with a silky, soft-touch feel. The material also features good UV stability, hydrolytic resistance and is available in different vibrant colours. The good laser etching capabilities allow clean regional branding without having to change tooling.

In general, TPSiV thermoplastic elastomers are unique, patented materials that offer an attractive combination of properties and benefits from thermoplastics (e.g. very good abrasion resistance) and fully crosslinked silicone rubber (e.g. improved temperature properties).
