Laser alignment to avoid machine breakdown and save energy

  • Misalignment as a main reason for equipment failure
  • Increased service life of screws and barrels
  • Energy savings up to 15%

Machine misalignment is one of the main reasons for equipment failure and associated downtime. Not only can misaligned machines destroy components, they can also increase the amount of energy used to operate a machine. TPEI (Technical Process and Engineering, Inc.), a manufacturer of continuous mixer and single screw extruders for the plastics and rubber industry, has now added laser alignment to its range of services to ensure equipment runs at optimum performance.

Increased overall lifespan of the machines & reduced energy consumption

TPEI’s ability to properly align equipment increases the overall lifespan of the machinery: in the case of an extruder, for example, the proper alignment can extend the service life of screw and barrel by up to 25% and lead to energy savings of up 15%, according to the company. And laser alignment is not limited to new installations. It is good practice to check the alignment of the entire machine any time major components such as motors, gearboxes, connecting gear houses, or base assemblies have either been moved or replaced.

The company’s range of alignment services include coupling alignment, extruder barrel alignment, bearing housing alignment, horizontal and vertical alignment of foundations, among others. Upon completion of the alignment, a report is available detailing before and after results of the service.
