Victrex showcased the performance of their polyaryletherketones (PAEK) product portfolio across a broad temperature range. Victrex PEEK 90HMF40, which was recently accredited by Airbus, is said to permit weight savings of up to 40% compared to aluminium. The polymer is claimed to be characterised by up to 100 times longer fatigue strength and up to 20% higher specific strength and stiffness as compared with aluminium 7075-T6 used in the aerospace industry under the same conditions.
In automotive construction, components made of Victrex WG polymers with optimised slip/friction properties are intended to extend the service life and raise the efficiency of components, including electric pumps, for example. As compared to other high-performance plastics, the friction coefficient with Victrex polymers is lower, depending on the requirement profile, and remains stable over the life of the product, according to the company.

Addex, a leading global supplier of blown film equipment and components, will exhibit both its air ring-based (EGC) system for blown film extrusion lines, which is said to deliver great flexibility for processors, enabling easy retrofits of existing or new systems in order to provide reduced thickness variation, increased yields and raw material savings. The company will also present its IBC-based (IGC) system and Digital Internal Bubble Cooling (DIBC) system which delivers the fastest reaction time in the industry to ensure precise bubble control, helping processors to speed product changeovers and significantly reduce scrap. Another key highlight will be Addex’s well-established Manual Gauge Control (MGC), based on the company’s Dual Lip Air Ring, which is said to permit selective adjustment to correct film gauge deviation caused by extruder, die, or ambient anomalies by as much as 25%.

Oriented PVC material is stronger and tougher than PVC-U and provides better overall performance. It has approximately twice the strength and ten times more impact resistance than PVC-U. But technical limitations and poor efficiency in their manufacturing process has been an obstacle to mass production and the use of PVC-O pipes in general. However, these limitations have been overcome with the employment of the new air process of molecular orientation developed by Molecor which now enables pressure pipes to be produced up to DN 800mm (30").
